I’m Dana Brown.
Curriculum expertise, service to students, time management, to captivate better results. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, with a concentration in behavioral sciences, from Concordia College-Bronxville, a master’s degree in reading and literacy from Fordham University, and an advanced certificate in educational leadership from SUNY New Paltz. I began my educational career in my family business, Open Day Educational Services, Inc., providing preschool, tutoring, and dance instruction to early childhood learners. I also taught first and second grade in the Peekskill City School District, worked as a reading specialist, literacy coach, specializing in adult learning, and as a district coordinator for the Wappingers Central School District, as well as served as a director for K-12 curriculum in the Arlington Central School District. As a consultant, I partner with Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, Dutchess County BOCES, Ulster County BOCES, Western Suffolk BOCES, the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center, Franklin Square Union Free School District, The Educators Link, as well as other public and private schools and organizations. When I am not consulting, I serve roles as a teacher, assistant Principal and Principal in K-12 schools in the Hudson Valley. I also maintain positions in small business service industries in the area.
My Approach
Service to Students
I believe in an orientation towards service. As a district leader, I led in the district where my own three children went to school K-12. I received very honest feedback from a student’s perspective on our work, and I listened hard to what they wanted from their school experiences, and led teams with this at the forefront.
Time Management
There is so much time and so little of it at every moment. How we use time directly relates to engagement, outcomes, and our ability to demonstrate our expertise.
Franklin Square Union Free School District
Training and support of school district’s Fundations implementation, with a focus on the high priority elements of the program.
